We started in Exeter recently, that was a fab place.

Depending what you’re into -

End route:
Cannock Chase
Cadbury World
Calke Abbey (NT)
Stratford upon Avon
Slimbridge Wetland Centre

Places to stop for a leg stretch/wee/coffee:
Likey Hills Country Park (5 mins from Hopwood Park services at the western end of the M42, but much nicer, country park, cafe, toilets, free parking)!
Gloucester Services (both sides of M5), lovely services, lots of local food, huge shop of “naice” things.

In Cornwall:
We love Kingsand/Cawsand, have stayed there many times. Great food in the Devonport Arms, lovely foot ferry trip from the beach to the Aquarium in Plymouth.
Cotehele (NT), Saltash
Monkey Sanctuary, Looe
Adrenaline quarry, Liskeard
Eden Project
Surf lesson in Newquay?
Lost Gardens of Heligan

BikeRunSki · 28/12/2019 20:39

“End route”should read “en route” obviously.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2019 20:41

Knightshayes isn’t far off the m5 at Tiverton. It’s a big NT place, loads of outside space. Only 10 mins from junction 27.

Lynmouth cliff railway
See SS Great Britain in Bristol?
Or the Victory and Mary Rose in Portsmouth?
Surfing lesson at polzeath
Sailing lesson at Helford
Pasty making class in Falmouth
If you get down as far as Coverack there is a lovely bloke in the harbour that rents out kayaks, very reasonable prices.
Goonhilly downs
HMS culdrose viewing area.
Flambards theme park.
Avoid lands end unless he really wants the photo! But porthcurno and its minack theatre are nearby and are gorgeous.
Return on the North coast
St Ives, Boscastle (witchcraft museum is fascinating) and Tintagel for all things King Arthur related.
Tintagel castle is spectacular.
Eden project.
Then up the M5 towards home.

Thank you some fabulous ideas to look up.

We have done Cadbury’s world previously. And animal related are out as he doesn’t like them. . I am thinking of doing a couple of stop overs . Have plans in Cornwall. It’s the in between bit x

Bristol is about half way between Derby and Newquay both in terms of distance and time. (Although I would probably do that sort of trip with no more than a stop for the loo and 15 minutes to stretch my legs).
How long are you planning to spend breaking your journey?

Serin · 29/12/2019 18:35

Diggerland
Woodlands Theme park in Devon.

Serin · 29/12/2019 18:36

Sorry they are probably both a bit young for him, just seen he is 12!

doublebarrellednurse · 29/12/2019 18:54

Stonehenge is a huge diversion!

I do Derbyshire to Cornwall around every 6 weeks , I am in Derbyshire family in Cornwall.

@bikeskirun I grew up in Saltash and it's so so close to my heart, I belong there.

I recommend a wander around Looe, Eden Project always, Seaton/Downderry are my fav beaches. Pictures attached are Looe and Seaton about 3 weeks ago.

Have a wonderful time OP
