We've been to the Jorvik Viking Festival a couple of times in the last few years and really enjoyed it, but now, having probably been to all of York's main sites a few times over, would love to find something similar but somewhere else.

And I don't mean another viking festival, but its been really fun to visit a small city during a festival period, where there are events every day that the kids will enjoy, and real atmosphere of celebration.

And the re-enacters are great fun too, but that;s less of a criteria.

Can you recommend anything else along those lines, where a family-friendly festival takes over a UK City for a week or weekend even?

(DSs are 10 and 11)

The Gloucester History Festival is good but not as big as Jorvik.
