First holiday with month old - UK in winter

Looking for ideas for a week in january for me, DH and 16mo toddler.
My son is a nightmare in the car, so we have hardly even left our town, and I'm going stir-crazy. We live in West Wales,
so everywhere is a long drive. Ideally looking for somewhere toddler-safe within an hour of the welsh border.
I've no idea what to do/where to go.
Bluestone is fully booked.

Title says month old but post says 16month old. Which one?

Is Manchester too far?
Aquarium
Museum of science and industry - there were kids crafts going on when we visited, and a whole building of planes and stuff
Manchester Museum - go visit the frogs
Legoland if you are feeling brave and flush!
Chester Zoo on the way home.

If you dont live in a city/big town mine also loved visiting swimming pools with slides and things, trips on trams/busses, huge soft play buildings when we visited somewhere big.

Oops, yes 16month old, not one month.

Center Parcs? Though without knowing where you are it’s hard to say if it would be within an hour of the border. One of my favourite things about CP is leaving the car in the car park all week. No car seat battles!

The ice cream farm in tattenhall nr Chester is great for that age

Devon is lovely. Better in the summer. Bath and Bristol are nice. Lots to see.

Forest holidays the one on the borders, we went with a young baby and it was fab!
