Where shall I take DP for his birthday???

I'm hoping to take DP away for his birthday in December but have no idea where. We aren't usually Holiday People so I'm a bit stuck for ideas.

In the past I've done things like a spa break or a night in a fancy hotel for him (and he does similar for me) but I'm feeling like we need something different this year. Not keen on driving so if it's possible to go by plane/train/coach from London or the South East then even better.

I know this is one of those boring threads that will get zero replies but I'm desperate Grin

what about somewhere in cornwall, like this? Its got a lovely resteraunt on site and gorgeous surroundings (lots of lakes and woodlands etc) which makes walking around nice. it also is near the town of St Ives so you could go out for something to eat near the sea

Ooh that looks nice actually and we haven't been to Cornwall before. I was looking at Warner Leisure breaks yesterday in desperation but not sure if we're their target market. But I do like the sound of a few days away without other people's children around Grin

Eurostar to Paris or festive break to Brugges would be lovely.

Would ideally want to stay in the UK this time, we haven't explored much of it really. I know I'm being extremely picky and not exactly coming up with many ideas myself. I do appreciate the replies though!

I like the idea of somewhere in the woods or by the coast, or maybe a lake? Definitely not a city break, although I appreciate that in December a city break would probably make more sense Grin

Sorry I clearly missed the UK break Blush

Given you dint want to drive your desire for rural woods etc become more problematic.

The Old England on lake Windermere is lovely and accessible by train.

PleaseHelpMeChoose · 09/11/2019 14:15

Ooh sounds promising thanks @wildhairdontcare I'll investigate that one a bit more. I know my requirements are fairly ridiculous though 😂 wanting wilderness but not having to drive there, and also wanting to still have things to do and nice food to eat.. in December of all times of the year Grin

Stratford Upon Avon? You should be able to get a nice hotel, pubs with fires and maybe the theatre too.

Or maybe somewhere like Cheltenham or Winchester?

No idea about woods or lakes though.

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 09/11/2019 14:57

How about somewhere in the New Forest? They have some lovely inns and Bournemouth/Weymouth/the Jurassic Coast is very accessible from there.

York?

Timeschange · 09/11/2019 22:19

See if there's a two day cruise out of Southampton, did it last year and was amazing, and age group far younger than longer cruises, about 40 on average

The pig hotels are very nice. I can recommend the one near Canterbury. And then go to the fordwich arms for lunch. Absolutely top

ElleEfarr · 09/11/2019 23:09

OMG @Timeschange that place in Newquay looks amazing Shock very pricey though Grin would only take an hour to fly there as well!

ElleEfarr · 09/11/2019 23:10

Thanks @RonniePasas I'll have a read of that thread now

I’m looking for something similar for DH in December too and have found cool places helpful with good options in SE but availability is a problem for us. Also been recommended 5 the lawn but unfortunately we only have one night of childcare and minimum stay here is 2 over a weekend. The pig group mentioned up thread look good too.
