Eating Cheap in London

MozzchopsThirty · 13/08/2019 19:12

Is it possible??

On a budget and wish we weren't going really but it's all booked so not much choice

Can anyone recommend reasonable places to eat or vouchers I could use for restaurants in the following locations or nearby

Tower bridge (where our hotel is)
Madam Tussaud's / Eye
Near Paddington

Many thanks in advance

Does it have to be out? Lots of Tesco Extra/Sainsbury's local shops. Have evening meal as a picnic in your room. Greggs sausage rolls for lunch. Use the rest of the budget on special meal or two out

London has got to be the best city in Europe if you're looking for reasonably priced restaurants.

this site will give you a great start

Download the too good to go app. Heavily discounted food from local cafes and restaurants.

I usually suggest a picnic in hyde park and its about a 10 min walk from paddington. You can hire deckchairs and sit by the thames. It's very enjoyable. Also a big cafe with wine right in the centre by the thames.

When I say picnic we usually go to m&s and get lots of nibbles while we're there so no dragging around food.

small2018 · 13/08/2019 19:47

Do you have the Meerkat Meals app?

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/08/2019 19:49

I'd really recommend La Porchetta, but it's a bit far away. Charing cross road, leicester square way. You could easily have one portion between two, portions are huge and v good value.

It's me & the dcs so needs to be fairly normal stuff
Plus I'm low carb which isn't easy when you're out unless I just want to eat salad

What about steak places? That don't cost the earth (Gaucho I'm looking at you)

Are you going by train?

MozzchopsThirty · 13/08/2019 20:35

Yes we are and have 3 days there
Hotel & sightseeing already paid for
Just the food to worry about

Tower Bridge - check out Maltby Street Market. Lots of food stalls and a fun experience.

Ricekrispie22 · 14/08/2019 06:00

If you’re going by train then make the most of your 2for1 National Rail offers www.daysoutguide.co.uk/things-to-do/food-drink-shopping

Tesco vouchers for the likes of Pizza Express and Zizzi.

Kilash · 14/08/2019 10:07

Go down to Chinatown and have an 'all you can eat' buffet - at lunchtime these are amazing!

stuckfornamesargh · 14/08/2019 10:08

Borough Market or the food market on Southbank are great and plenty of places to sit and eat

Teddybear45 · 14/08/2019 10:13

Tower Bridge - walk up to Borough Market.
Paddington - suggest taking the tube up to Euston / Kings Cross where there’s plenty to eat on a budget especially towards Camden Market.

stuckfornamesargh · 14/08/2019 10:49

Franco Manca pizza are all over London they're cheap and deeeeeliciois

stuckfornamesargh · 14/08/2019 10:56

Flat iron are reasonable for ateak and very good.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 14/08/2019 11:38

Check out early bird type deals as well. I went to a dim sum place a few weeks ago that was half price up to 6pm. I think wagamama is generally good value, and you know what you are going to get. Depends how adventurous you want to be in trying new places.

buttertoasty · 14/08/2019 11:38

Just stick to chain restaurants, pizza express and the like and look up vouchers.
