Romantic restaurant Isle of Wight

I'm taking DH away for his 40th to the isle of eight and wanted to splash out on an expensive romantic meal, any recommendations? Modern British seafood type places and location not an issue as I will book accommodation near the restaurant I choose. Thanks!

This place is relaxed but a gem, has its own mooring for the posh folk with speed boats. Very small, you must book. It's right on the beach.

Hiya! I live on the iow, believe it or not I haven't come across many seafood type restaurants and I've lived here for 3 years now.

I'm aware of a seafood cafe in Bembridge but I've not been there so couldn't give you a review.
There's a pub (The Steamer in Shanklin) that does seafood but you have contact them at least the day before so that they actually have it in, fresh. (But also not romantic at all)

In Shanklin, there are some beautiful restaurants- Morgan's, The Corner, Pendleton's.
A lovely bar No 64 and some really cute pubs.

There are lovely pubs and restaurants all over the island.
It may be worth looking at Cowes (I very rarely go over that side of the island for food) but I hear there are some looovely places.

My family own a guesthouse in Shanklin called The Fawley- they are on trip advisor etc so you can have a little look.

I hope you have a lovely time, it's a lovely island xx

Brilliant thanks both, the hut looks good but some reviews are hit and miss, I read about the priory bay hotel having a lovely restaurant but it says it's closed for a refurb but the trip isn't until spring next year so might be open by then I guess!

I haven’t been here but I went to one of his previous places (the Hambrough, admittedly ten years ago) and it was lovely. All roads lead to Newport iirc so you could book any accommodation. (We stayed in a lovely flat in Godshill if you’d like another out-if-date recommendation...)

Try Three Bouys in Ryde. Practically in the beach (I’m going there in ten minutes)!
The Hambrough in Ventnor is s boutique hotel which used to have a Michelin star but is still excellent - the starred chef has opened his own restaurant in Newport called Thompson’s (but I haven’t been there). Coast in Cowes is nice gastropub.
Lochlane in Bembridge does seafood good reviews.
Hope that gives you a variety to choose from!

(It was here, fwiw)

tilly2dresses · 11/08/2019 19:49

Ha thanks @Pipandmum I'll check them out

Thompson's looks like a good option!

The crab and lobster in Bembridge is well known for seafood and I didn’t have any complaints after eating there though it wasn’t my favourite place either.
Murray’s in cowes is quite small but they do some lovely meals and we quite enjoyed it for our anniversary.
The Pilot Boat inn did some nice seafood meals as well last time we visited there, although most of the pubs or restaurants that are not part of a chain normally have one or two locally sourced seafood mains so there’s plenty to choose from.

Daytimetellysucks · 11/08/2019 19:55

Coast in a Cowes is good

The Waterfront Bar in Totland is nice - I think it gets mixed reviews but the food has been lush every time I’ve eaten there

The Boathouse in Steephill Cove is lovely - bit weather dependant though

The Bandstand in Sandown

The Spyglass in Ventnor

I was about to suggest the Three Buoys in Ryde - we went there for a wedding anniversary and it was lovely.

I have to say we were spectacularly underwhelmed at the sea food platter,it was like they went to Waitrose ,bought some tubs of prawns etc and padded it all out with salad, the lobster was so tiny it was ridiculous. I think its sister restaurant in Ventnor The Spyglass is better but haven't eaten there.

MrsKCastle · 11/08/2019 19:59

Another recommendation for the Three Buoys. We have family in Ryde who really like the place.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 11/08/2019 20:03

Ah, this is such a timely thread - DH and I will be on the IOW for our wedding anniversary in the autumn, so I will shamelessly stalk this thread!

tilly2dresses · 11/08/2019 20:29

Three bouys seems to be getting a lot of votes, Thompson's has no availability for my weekend
