I'm looking for a hotel within 15 mins of M6 somewhere between Carlise and Preston

Can anyone recommend/ find one? I've checked Travelodge etc and they don't seem to have any 'cheap' rooms and I'm not really too keen on them anyway. It would be better to be nearer Carlisle than Preston (but more than 3 hours from Glasgow) but we're not fussy where, it's just a stop over to break a long journey up. I really don't knwo that area very well so recommendations would be much appreciated.
(Oh and the cheaper the better

What about the Westmorland Hotel at Tebay? Don't know how much it costs though.

We stayed at a place which was directly off the motorway. However, it was not a Travelodge but a one-off place that seemed to be a base for walkers. I remember a very good restaurant, and very vibrant atmosphere.

It might have been the Tebay place that someone else mentioned.

Last time we went up, we stayed at the Travelodge in Carlisle services, and I think it was reasonably cheap (eg £60 per room). We ate in an off-site pub, accessed via the private drive of the services, rather than the services.

you used to be able to book accomodation at the university of Lancaster which is 5 minutes off the m6. don't know if you still can, but there is certainly a travel lodge or similar at the campus.
