My husband (35) and myself (33) are in Oxford next weekend for my in-laws wedding anniversary. We have the daytime to ourselves on the Saturday and are looking for things to do. We are option to all sorts of ideas. Any tips or advice would be great. TIA

The Pitt Rivers museum is amazing ❤️

I agree Pitt Rivers is great. It's also a good time of year to go punting!

northerngirl2012 · 25/07/2019 09:10

There’s loads to do in oxford, river walks, colleges, parks, punting, museums!

A short drive outside is World of crocodiles , which is a small crocodile zoo , definitely worth a visit if you like crocs .

YY to the Pitt Rivers museum in the Natural History museum.

The Ashmolean is a wonderful place.

Oxford Botanic Garden.

If you like shopping then Westgate is fab.

Go on a tour of one of the colleges like Christchurch.

Expect to be really irritated because the city centre is currently heaving with tourists. I became irrationally angry last week 😂

Thanks so much for the quick replies! I like the idea of the Pitt rivers museum Any recommendations on some good pubs for ales or local drink?

I'll be toddler-free so probably blissfully unaware of the tourists!

The Head of the River is good, and The Eagle and Child is worth a look if you're interested in Tolkien. Less of a pub and more of a bar, but the Varsity Club has a good rooftop view of the city.

Lurking with interest. Apologies I can’t add to thread.

CitadelsofScience · 25/07/2019 10:27

Yes to TVC, The Varsity Club. Wonderful view of the city on the rooftop terrace, sat with one of their lovely cocktails.

My dh quite like The Turf Tavern but I've never been.

He also went to The Isis Farmhouse in Iffley the other week and said it was lovely.

The Bodleian Library is amazing! The 90 minute tour runs on Saturday morning and is the only tour that takes you through the tunnel from the Library up into the Radcliffe Camera. Book in advance.

Yes also to the Turf - a bit touristy but fun to find. Look for the alleyway to the left after the 'Bridge of Sighs'.

punting is wonderful if the weather is good - plenty of riverside pubs to visit too. We all loved the Pitt Rivers museum (shrunken heads were a huge hit with my kids) and the Ashmolean museum.
