Thoughts on Plymouth?

DH has suggested we have a few days in Plymouth this summer staying with his friends.
I’ve never been. It’s a 5 hour drive from us.
Thoughts on the area? Is there much to do? We have two teenagers and a toddler to keep entertained.
Interested in any recommendations.

Toddler-wise, there is a good aquarium. Also nearby there is Pennywell Farm.

There's less to do for teenagers though other than your standard ice skating, cinema, etc.

Plymouth city has your usual mix of shops. It has the National Marine Aquarium on the Barbican, which is lovely.
Further afield you have various attractions but will depend on how far you're happy to go. Paignton Zoo and Torquay aren't too far away; Buckfastleigh has a nice but small steam train line and butterfly and otter rescue; Dart Country Park, Stover Country Park, Dartmoor, Dartmoor Zoo, Woodlands Family Theme Park - that's just Devon. You're also right on the Cornwall border - so Eden Project, Monkey Sanctuary etc.
Plenty around to do, just depends on your interests and willingness to travel.

As PP said, plenty to do in the city and surrounding area depending on your interests.

There’s also currently a trail of Elmer elephants throughout the city... may make it more fun/interesting to toddlers while you explore.
