We are travelling form the midlands to Caernarfon and would like to find a place to stop for lunch and spend a couple of hours before travelling onward (heading down the coast to Pembrokshire after an overnight stay) two adult and DS who will be almost 6. Nothing too extreme, I have looked at Zip world Fforest and the coaster looks good, but the other bits neither ds or myself would enjoy !

The Centre for Alternative Technology is a good day out. There are lots of interactive exhibits, an adventure playground, cafe, family maze and many different animals to visit, plus plenty of open space. There’s even a cliff railway in the summer months. www.cat.org.uk/come-to-cat/visiting/?date=upcoming&view=grid&type=All&category=All

Conwy Valley Railway Museum is also fun. My dc enjoy pushing the buttons to make trains on the model railways within the museum run around the track. A real ride on (rather than model) miniature railway takes a 10 minute trip around the grounds.

There’s King Arthur’s Labyrinth too which I’d highly recommend www.kingarthurslabyrinth.co.uk

Do you want lunch in Caernarfon or on theA487/A470?

blamethecat · 01/05/2019 22:42

Lunch before caernarfon as we are there overnight. Probably coming down A5.

You could try Llandudno? Cottage Loaf is a great place for lunch!

Where about are you staying in Caernarfon?

sakura06 · 08/05/2019 21:53

Sorry do you want somewhere to stop on the way to Caernarfon or between Caernarfon and Pembrokeshire?

If on the way to Caernarfon, Betws y Coed is lovely on the A5. If coming via A55, definitely Conwy.

Portmeirion is amazing on the way from Caernarfon to Pembrokeshire or Aberystwyth.

Thank you, I guess a bit of both, a stop on the way to Caernarfon (Probably going down the A5) and then the next day (off to Bluestone) , I quite fancy Llandudno but not sure DP is convinced, but ds love crazy golf and an arcade so it ticks those boxes, DP would like to go to a mine so I am trying to convince him we can do it all in one place with the Great Orme .

I feel its wise choice nice place have a good root around and plan your trip, lots of good stuff nearby, Ski slope with toboggan run at the top of Happy Valley and caves in the woods to explore, not many people know so dont tell!
Remember Llandudno has two totally different beaches
What is DP looking for?

Llandudno is great, especially for kids. It can get quite cold there though.
