Broadstairs or Bournemouth for Summer Hols?

Looking for a fairly easy seaside getaway with the 6 and 8yos this summer. Broadstairs and Bournemouth look like great options and are both about 2 hours by train from where we live, but I've never been to either. Any opinions about which would be the better option for a weeklong stay, ten days tops? Hoping to book a self-catering cottage near the beach but within walking distance of town/station.

Bournmouth has a nice beach but I doubt you would get a holiday home for this year as they will be booked up.
We booked a house in Tenby as it was left out of the door 100yards to the beach right 100 yards to the town, it wasn't cheap and can be booked up years in advance but good ones are. Have you thought of a caravan park located on the beach as they should have kids clubs etc?
You would really have to do your homework re transport to other places, it possibly too far but Barmouth in North wales has a fantastic beach but is on a railway line and its easy to get to other places
