Peak District with teenagers - things to do

Iwanttoseethesea · 18/04/2019 07:37

Taking 3 teens to the Peak District in the summer holidays. Already planned a day at Alton Towers and a bike ride along the Monsal Trail (?).

Any other ideas to keep them amused ? Chatsworth is near our accommodation but it's not something they'd enjoy.

Any ideas ?!

Hiking? Try Mam Tor. Or you could do a round walk between the villages.
Caves at castleton.
A day in Sheffield.

Thank you I'll look into that.

Anything else ?

Swimming at Hathersage outdoor pool. It's heated.
Visit to Matlock Bath and going to the Heights of Abraham.
Cycling on the Monsal trail.

It's not the most teen friendly place if they're not into heritage (Chatsworth etc). I loved that sort of thing.
Horse riding the Tissington Trail?

ElizabethMainwaring · 18/04/2019 10:00

Carsington Water. I think they do exciting outdoorsy stuff there.

Bakewell is a lovely place to visit too. Plus the proper Bakewell tarts are amazing!!

ElizabethMainwaring · 18/04/2019 10:13

It's full of beautiful places. Dovedale, Ashbourne, Buxton, Matlock Bath. But there's not a great deal to actually do.

Holidayaddict · 19/04/2019 10:30

Very sorry to jump on this thread but we are planning on going to the Heights of Abraham on the way up to the Yorkshire Dales - it looks great btw OP, we have teens too so hopefully teen-friendly activity! We will stay in the area overnight before continuing up to the dales after lunch the next day. We're not sure whether to stay in Malham or Buxton (both premier inns). Malham is obviously right by the heights but wonder if Buxton might be nicer - all depends where we plan to visit in the morning before heading North, so suggestions for that greatly appreciated to help with the decision!

Thank you!

Water doing at the Rother Valley Country Park. Not actually in the Peak Park, but not far. Watersports also available at Carsington Water.

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2019 10:38

@Holidayaddict Malham is nowhere near the Heights of Abraham. Did you mean Matlock? Just checking before you book the wrong place!

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2019 10:39

Doh. “water skiing at Rother Valley Country Park”. Not “water doing”.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/04/2019 10:40

The Blue John mines at Castleton.

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2019 10:41

Pure Outdoor do rock climbing taster days on the Peaks.

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2019 10:43

Hathersage Pool - heated outdoor pool
Grindleford Station Cafe if they have big appetites.

Holidayaddict · 19/04/2019 10:50

@BikeRunSki Yes - MatlockGrin Result of too much googling the dales!

My DC enjoyed the maze at Chatsworth
There’s abseiling at Millers Dale Viaduct on the Monsal Trail.
Speedwell Cavern
There’s a Go Ape in Buxton. Poole’s Cavern is at the same location and it’s worth going round. Swains Centre on the outskirts of Buxton is a great place for go karting.

Iwanttoseethesea · 22/04/2019 09:25

Just looked at the abseiling - that looks like something our boys would love ! Carsington water looks great too and they love Go Ape as we have one locally they've done and enjoyed. Thanks for all the great ideas !
