Hi there. We live in the SW but we have a wedding in Luton in August and we were hoping to combine this with our family holiday, so we would go to the wedding in Luton and then drive onto somewhere afterwards. I am thinking in a radius of maybe 2 or. 3 hrs away but not back towards the South West. Would like to discover somewhere new.

Many thanks in anticipation X

somewhere like romney sands maybe? its around a 3 hour drive from luton, and you are near the beach (easy walking distance). the holiday park i linked also has 2 indoor pools and crazy gold/ tennis etc.

There's a Centre Parks at Woburn.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/04/2019 16:35

Derbyshire is wonderful, loads to do and see. There's a good range of accommodation too.

St Albans isn’t far from Luton and has a nice cathedral, Roman ruins etc.

Or head towards the coast - Canterbury, whistable, the beaches around broadstairs/Ramsgate/Margate.

Going north you’ve got places such as Norfolk or Cambridgeshire.

Cotswolds? Not a lot to do there though, but it is pretty

If you have small children Legoland in Windsor?

MoniqueTonique · 08/04/2019 16:44

Oh dear sorry sleepismysuperpower but please don't go to Romney Sands, it is truly awful, the beach is 100% mud and the holiday park has accommodation that looks like prison blocks. Security at the shop. Seriously avoid at all costs. We stumbled across it accidentally on the little train ride and thought it would be a nice stop... I'm still not over it!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/04/2019 16:49

moniquetonique thats so unfortunate! we went a few years ago and while the buildings weren't the prettiest we did find the beach absolutely fine- perhaps it was the time of year you visited? we went in the summer. all the best x

Cambridge, norfolk and suffolk are around 2-3 hours from Luton.

HeddaGarbled · 08/04/2019 16:54

Norfolk or Suffolk coast? Wells next the sea in Norfolk and Southwold in Suffolk are both approx 2.5 hours drive from Luton.

stucknoue · 08/04/2019 16:55

Norfolk - Wells next to the see is nice. Or if shorter, 2-3 nights in a couple of cities perhaps, Leicester has the National space centre and Nottingham has Robin Hood things, Birmingham has think tank.

Blueowls · 08/04/2019 16:57

Wells would be my first suggestion. Rutland Water also worth considering.

shumway · 08/04/2019 17:00

Hunstanton or Felixstowe or Southwold?

Babdoc · 08/04/2019 17:02

I believe Luton has an airport- and loads of cheap flights to much more exciting places with much better weather than Bedfordshire....!

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2019 17:03

You’ll not be far from the Warner Brothers Studios if your dc are into Harry Potter.
From Luton? I’d take the opportunity to explore East Anglia.

Thank you all so much for some really great ideas! X
