Help Please! - Places to go - staying near Bodmin, 4 and 6 year olds

Hoping a few people may come along with some good ideas please!

Going to stay on a farm with my 4 and 6 year olds from 13th - 20th April. Am busy researching where to go on days out both for good weather but especially for rainy days. 6 year old has ASD and can be tricky to persuade him to go out so I need ideas to tempt him with that he won't be too grumpy over. He's bright and very much into 'doing', likes to tell me often that 'animals are boring!'

So far I have the steam train at Bodmin (more for the 4 year old who loves trains, no 1 son will say this is boring!), a seal safari from Padstow and Cardinham Woods (again more for the 4 year old) and Treyarnon Beach (I read it's good for rock pools but happy to have other better rock pool recommendations!). Eden Project is a maybe.

We don't mind driving an hour ish each way for a day out.

What am I missing please?! Smile

Do they like cycling? You can hire bike and go down the Camel trail.
The train is good from St Erth to St Ives as well x

Thank you for the quick reply! Both still have stabilisers at home and the 6 year old isn't that physically adventurous (a bit easily scared combined with a tad lazy 😀). I'll definitely look into the train though and what we could do when we get there.

Treyarnon has a huge rock pool that you can swim in, harlyn and porthcothan are also lovely beaches on that stretch of coast line.
Bodmin jail? May appeal to your 6 year old, full of weird dummies set up in stories of wrong doing!

You can hire tag alongs and trailers for the camel trail might work for your age kids? It’s a lovely bike ride and Padstow is nice for wander, fish and chips and ice cream.
There’s also the lobster thingy there, we lost an hour or so in there one day, was quite good!

Oh wow thank you so much, these are great ideas. Much appreciated.

I'm googling!!

Yes, as much as I love holidays I do find myself sometimes wondering how we can pass time! Every hour counts!!

If he had his way my 6 year old would be a recluse living in pyjamas!

Maybe go down to Fowey - small aquarium, boat trips up the river, foot ferry across to Polruan and nice little beach. Or Mevagissey, model railway place, boats and little aquarium again.

Thanks Sunnyday. Will look into those too!

Fowey is lovely, we went across to polruan and walked a lovely trail but you’re 6 yro may not be keen 🤣

My 11 yro would most definitely love to lounge in his pj’s all day, strongly suspect he is on the milder end of the spectrum too!

Thanks Arietty, yes hard work getting him out! I used to love long walks pre the kids. He would literally think I'm crazy if I said the activity was the walk! Fowey does definitely sound an option though, thank you!

I like the sound of your 6 year old I’d be a recluse in comfy pjs if I could get away with it :)

Me too SheRa, I suspect he got the genetics from yours truly!

I took them to the Park today after a lot of protesting about wanting a 'home day' and within 15 minutes of getting home all 3 of us were in pjs (with the excuse that we got wet as it was drizzling of course) Wink

Lanhydrock is a national trust place near Bodmin which has an Easter trail on at the moment, plus park etc as well as the main house.
