DH and I are about to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and we're considering spending a night in Edinburgh. Where would be a good place for dinner?

Steak at Picardy Place is lovely.

Miros Cantina on Rose Street is good if you like Mexican.

Cafe Andeluz on George Street or George IV bridge night not be romantic but is tasty for food.

peg90 · 05/04/2019 20:49

Martin Wishart's restaurant is lovely and The Kitchin is ace!

MrsJackRackham · 05/04/2019 20:53

The Witchery. Hands down, it's awesome.

ElloBrian · 05/04/2019 20:55

Is the Witchery still going?

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 05/04/2019 20:56

Loads of nice places to eat in Edinburgh, depends on your idea of dinner out, is it a way to kick start your evening or do you want your dinner to be the whole evening and also budget is a consideration. The Kitchin and Wisharts are amazing for fine dining, quality service and atmosphere but comes at a price. It's a great city and whatever your plan you will find good options.

BertrandRussell · 05/04/2019 20:58

Not romantic, but oh, I am pining for Ting Thai Caravan!

Bilingualspingual · 05/04/2019 20:58

Echo Martin Wishart in Leith. Wonderful.

IMissGin · 05/04/2019 20:59

Loads of people will say Witchery- the Restaurant is beautiful but the good is shite IMO, massively overrated. Their other restaurant rhubarb is a million times better. I love the grainstore though- it’s my favourite in Edinburgh.

Other options would be Divinios, the honours or monteiths

IMissGin · 05/04/2019 21:00

Food not good, sorry

catenthusiast · 05/04/2019 21:00

Chez Jules is a lovely French restaurant - it's very intimate and not too pricey either. My DH and I went there when we were on honeymoon!

RickyGold · 05/04/2019 21:05

I would go with the Kitchin, it's lovely and it feels like an experience not just a meal

supercee · 05/04/2019 21:06

How fancy are you talking? Fine dining on the expensive side or focus more on nice food rather than overly fancy?

Fine dining I'd say The Honours, the Witchery, Cafe Saint Honoré, The Tower Restaurant.

Mexican my personal fave is El Cartel in Thistle Street, Kyloe supposed to be nice for steak but not personally been. The Scran and Scallie a bit out of the city centre in Stockbridge...

StephsCaddy · 05/04/2019 21:07

Cafe st honore is lovely. Martin Wishart too

supercee · 05/04/2019 21:08

I agree with pp, you would go to the Witchery for the setting and not necessarily the food.

IMissGin · 05/04/2019 21:09

Ooh I forgot cafe st honore - we were there the day we got engaged, it’s lovely. For something less pricey Bon vivant is lovely

avacadooo · 05/04/2019 21:45

Avoid steak on Picardy place their service is shit.
Kyloe is amazing!! So is el cartel and non vivant!

mrs2cats · 06/04/2019 07:37

Wow! So many replies! Thank you.

I'd been wondering about The Witchery because it looks lovely but I'd heard the food isn't great. A bit of a shame.

BertrandRussell, DH loves Thai so we might have to fit it in if we're there overnight.

I'll have a look at the the others - they all sound lovely.

We live in the northeast of England so we could just go up to Edinburgh for the day. Maybe we'll just have to keep going back to try them all Smile

Thanks again for all the suggestions.
