Cottage holiday for this Summer...Cornwall?

Planning a UK staycation for August....2 adults, 2 kids (11, 9) and (ideally) 2 dogs. I fancy Cornwall, DH concerned about the crowds. Is it INCREDIBLY busy? Are there any gems elsewhere I should consider?

Watching for info OP.

Due to shifts we have to take time off in August. Main holiday is in October, but will be doing a week in UK in August.

It depends which part of the county you go and on the weather. We live in Cornwall and we avoid St Ives, Padstow, Bude and most of the Northern Coastline for August.
The South Coast is quieter, especially around the south east corner, although if you stay near enough to the beach and the weather is good, you'll avoid the traffic jams.

Agree with cjpark. SE Cornwall away from Newquay, St Ives, Padstow etc will be a lot quieter. But you are going to have to get a move on and book as Cornwall books out really early and not everywhere is dog friendly. We have started using some facebook groups for our holidays now and there are several for dog holidays in Cornwall or Cornwall and devon owners direct type ones. There is also a good guide called dogs love Cornwall available from Visit Cornwall which lists dog friendly beaches and places to stay.
