Any advice for a family holiday in Guernsey?

We usually head to Dorset but would like to go somewhere different this year. Anyone have experience of holidays in Guernsey? Is the ferry crossing better from Portsmouth or Poole? Any recommendations for good holiday cottages?

Hi, I'm doing the same, are Condor Ferries the only Company that goes to Guernsey from the UK?

Be warned, Guernsey is lovely but we don’t have loads to do here, you’re not going to get a particularly action packed holiday if that’s what you’re after.

Thanks for responding. We are not after lots of action. Some beach days, nice lunches, space for the kids to charge around.

Ahhh then Guernsey would be great, our beaches are gorgeous . Can’t help on boat or holiday cottage info but I know there’s quite a few holiday cottages here. Usually within walking distance of a beach.

Guernsey is beautiful! We went nearly 2 years ago and stayed at Adair Bungalows, would highly recommend them. Lovely grounds, really clean, great location. We did a ferry trip to Herm island, collected shells on shell beach and had a fab lunch at the mermaid tavern. I think we ate at Crabby Jacks about 5 times during our stay there too, great food and perfect for the kids! I hope you have a fab time if you do decide to go!

Guernsey is lovely. However, there is a lot more to do on Jersey and it's only one extra hour on the fast ferry from Poole.

That said, you don't really need a car so it might be better to fly over (30 minutes) and use the very good buses on either island.

We flew to Guernsey as it was cheaper than the ferry. It is a great island for walking as nothing is far away. Just beware that it sort of shuts down on Sundays

What did you want to know? I live in Guernsey, have small children and generally love it.
