Where to stay for Wembley?

Hi all,

Me and DH will be going to a concert in June at Wembley Arena. We are complete London novices and unsure where it would be best to stay. We're in Nottingham.

We don't mind staying further out if there's a decent tube line. We'd prefer to drive down if possible as train prices are usually ridiculous.

I've seen a travel lodge in Brent Cross with parking but can't figure out if it's be a relatively easy tube hop?

Grateful for any suggestions on areas to stay.

We have stayed at the barn in Ruislip a few times as it’s very easily accessible on the tube to Wembley, the tube station is behind the hotel so perfect.
Not sure whether Ruislip is easily accessible from Nottingham though, we come along the M4 and A40 so perfect for us.

I don't think Brent Cross to Wembley is very easy on public transport, even though they are quite close geographically. You ideally want somewhere like Stanmore, Harrow, maybe Watford (near tube) but I don't know hotels.

Oncloudten · 05/01/2019 22:25

Actually, looking at google maps this may be easy for you if you can get to the M40. The M40 eventually becomes the A40 which takes you right to Ruislip, it’s very easy to get to the hotel off the A40. Booking.com always has good prices for the hotel.

Ruislip underground station behind the hotel is on the metropolitan line and about 6 stops away from Wembley Park where you need to get off. This exits you up Wembley way and straight into the stadium, it’s extremely easy.

There is a Premier Inn just down the road from the Arena , within walking distance ... try there

You can easily do a bus from Brent Cross to Wembley stadium, however not tube. As PP has mentioned, geographically they are not far in distance, just down the north circ. There's a Premier Inn in Hendon/Kingsbury. I'm pretty sure they have a car park, and again it's an easy bus ride to Wembley stadium; number 83!

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/01/2019 22:30

I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza on Hanger Lane, I can see the stadium arch from the hotel but don't know how easy it is to get there from the hotel. It does have a car park but there is an extra fee per day for that.

VanGoghsDog · 05/01/2019 22:33

There's a Premier Inn within about 400 yards, or a Hilton right opposite, the Arena itself has pre bookable parking if you don't get parking with the hotel.

National Rail has a Wembley Stadium station from Marylebone, though the service isn't very frequent.

Jubilee and Metropolitan lines go to Wembley Park, the nearest tube station. The staff up there are well rehearsed when there is a big event on nearby. (I work for the Tube) You could stay anywhere near these lines and get and from your concert quickly. Baker Street is a good bet.

You can use your contactless debit or credit card on the tube barriers, and on the buses, no need to buy tickets anymore.

I wouldn't drive to London, even to Brent Cross. Seventh circle of hell. To get from Brent Cross to Wembley Stadium by Tube you have to go south on the northern line first to King's Cross St Pancras then back up north on the Metropolitan line to Wembley Park Confused. The 182 bus from Brent Cross shopping centre to Wembley stadium is easier and takes 40 minutes.

If you have any other questions about your trip you can contact Visit London www.visitlondon.com who have loads of good information. tfl.gov.uk provides good travel planning tools, and on the go, as a Londoner of 22 years (adopted), I use the Citymapper app to navigate unfamiliar areas of the city.

Thanks everyone, really helpful.

@Oncloudten the Barn looks good! Ruislip shouldn't be a problem for us. Will have a look into it.

I wouldn't drive to London, even to Brent Cross. Seventh circle of hell.

I drove from Bedford for a gig mid Dec, it was totally fine - parked at Wembley Arena in the red car park, pre booked, £16. Far better value and less stressful than trying to use public transport. Friends who did had to leave early to ensure they could get the last train.

GrumpySausage · 05/01/2019 22:41

Also to those who mentioned the hotels opposite Wembley, we've already looked and they're about £200 for that night. They're not daft you know. I'd rather not fork out that for one night in a premier inn/travelodge.

Are you going to see P!NK as we are and am so excited. Luckily we live about 5 trains stops from Wembley but unfortunately don't have any room to put you up 😀. Have you looked for Airbnb in the area?

Notquiterichenough · 05/01/2019 22:45

I live in Rickmansworth, and the tube to Wembley is a doddle. Anywhere on the Met Line is fine, and you're not driving into central London.

Depends on whether you want to go to London as well?

GrumpySausage · 05/01/2019 22:49

@tapdancingmum no not P!nk, though I would love to see her.

Dh surprised me with tickets to see Fleetwood Mac. Maximum brownie points for him.

£200 seems normal to me for any hotel in London.

GrumpySausage · 06/01/2019 02:58

Thanks @VanGoghsDog. I'll keep your helpful suggestions in mind.

We usually pay around £90 for our one night stay at The Barn, it’s a lovely place too, very olde worlde and the breakfast is also very good. Look into it OP, it’s in an excellent location, very easy to find and the tube is a doddle from there. Free onsite parking too.
Get there for 2pm, drop your bags and have a wander up the high street behind the hotel, there are pubs and places to eat etc then get the tube to Wembley. 👍

Firework73 · 06/01/2019 07:51

There is also a pub called the Orchard near West Ruislip Station which has a premier inn attached to it . The station is about a five min walk from there either Ruislip station or West Ruislip

Badbadbunny · 10/01/2019 19:18

There are a couple of chain hotel right next to Wembley. Book well in advance and you may get decent rates.

VanGoghsDog · 10/01/2019 22:35

@Badbadbunny

Oh god, don't be mentioning those, you'll get a sarky reply like I did.

GrumpySausage · 11/01/2019 06:56

Thank you everyone.
