Couple of nights away over New Year with kids

The Xmas holidays seem really long this year so we will have a lot of time to fill after Xmas. Can't stand the thought of being stuck in the house all the time watching the kids on the ps4, so was wondering about getting away for a couple of nights over NY.

We don't have an enormous amount to spend, but are fairly easy about location. DH is not a huge country bumpkin, so a city break might be an idea. So far have only thought of York as seems to be a fair amount to do for kids (10 and 8). Any other suggestions? We will probably be driving to avoid flight costs.

Where are you in the UK are you in the UK, what is your budget and how far are you prepared to travel etc etc. I would love to do something similar. Have you looked at Scotland or the Lakes a big hotel would be good so hopefully the kids could meet other friends. Augill Castle might be nice if any spaces. It will probably a case of where has spaces now OP.

I usually go away. I just choose a city and book a hotel with a pool so there’s always something to do.

Edinburgh if you can get a travel lodge etc, lots of free things to do. Same for York.
