Off to Suffolk - any tips for things to do?

We are off to Holton (famous only for Bernard Matthews and bird flu?!) in Suffolk for a week. Does anyone know the area and could recommend things to do with a 2 year old and 9 month old. In case the weather is good what are the best beaches? We'll be 6 miles from Southwold. We normally frequent north norfolk but have gone for a change this time, hope its just as good!!

walk along the harbour in southwold - lots of boats to look at - great for a slow toddle with a toddler.

Ooh, I love Lavenham. Tea and Cakes at the big Hotel on the main street, can't remember it's name. Yummy.

there is a zoo a bit south of Lowestoft, and also a little place near Oulton Broad that has small animals - rabbits, goats etc - that is nice for littlies.

I live near there-ish.

It's all nice. Love Walberswick - have lunch at the Bell.
Go to Southwold and go on the pier - great alternative amusements.
Orford, Dunwich Heath is beautiful, good national trust place with lovely walks.

I love Fritton Lake at Somerleyton, bit North of where you're going.

Hello, jsut thought you would like to know we had a terrific time in Suffolk - we did Southwold, walked to Walberswick, crabbed off the quay, had the best lunch at the Bell and the creams teas at the tea shop were heavenly. We also went to Dunwich and Dunwich Heath, Framlingham, Aldeburgh, and we tried Somerleyton but it was closed - good reason to go back. So thanks again for the advice it was a wonderful break and the girls loved it.

thanks for this - off to Suffolk on Thursday with a 16 month old and have printed of this thread. So much better than trawling loads of tourist information sites.

I live in Suffolk, bring your wellies and raincoats - there has been rather a lot of rain these last few days.

Dh took the little ones to Bressingham recently which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Southwold is great, dunno what you can do there when the weather is shite though (apart from get wet)

I have brought wellies and raincoats, don't you worry! Have you ever been to the Easton Farm Park? Thought I would put that on our list....

Never been to Easton, have heard it is good. DH took children to Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm web site here which they loved.

Tried to go to Gnome Magic off A12 today but it was closed

Easton is good, but i'm guessing it will be muddy, i'm in Aldeburgh so not far.
Thorpeness fireworks are Friday night.

I'm in suffolk too ,would second all the commenst here plus southwold pier really old fashioned and some hysterical machines half way down.Woodbrdge is really pretty and worth a look and a wander down the Thoroughfare and along the river.Also a day trip to norwich if you are feeling strong.
