Cornwall...week away, where to stay?

Next June we are planning a week in Cornwall and I don't really know where to start looking for a cottage (as in the area)

Ideally we would like to be near the sea, surf lesson or two if possible and plenty to see and do with two DCs aged 7 & 4.

I have only been to Cornwall once as a child so have no idea really where to look but would welcome some advice. I like cute village, arty or surf feel ideally, not bothered in being in / near a big ish town.

We like Norfolk a lot (usually stay in Blakeney or near) but fancied a change this year!

Does anyone have any tips?

When we go to Cornwall we stay at Wringworthy cottages Looe which is on the south coast and near to Plymouth. it has a swimming pool and farm animal feeding. when my kids were the same age as yours they spent days on the site in the pool and playbarn. www.wringworthy.co.uk We love this part of Cornwall because its less busy than the North or far West and easier to get to down the A38 past Plymouth.

Mawgan Porth is stunning. A friend of mine just returned from a week long stay there and it looked beautiful. The house they stayed in was on AirBnb I believe. It's near to Trevone where I used to go as a child (beautiful beach), as well as close to Newquay and Padstow. We've booked for a weekend there next May! Only an hours drive to st ives and fairly close to the Eden project so a great location really.

We're big fans of St Ives, too. Loads of houses/cottages/flats to choose from, just check the locations before you book as some can be up some very big hills (which might be fine if you're all fit, but a pain if you're not - or if you just don't want that on your holiday).
