Traditional Sunday lunch in York or nearby

We are having a family weekend in York to celebrate my fathers 80th birthday. Can anyone recommend a nice pub/restaurant for a Sunday lunch (ie roast) - my parents are not very adventurous on the eating front so prefer traditional food.

We will have a car, so anywhere in a surrounding village might work, as well as in the city.

The woodman in Bishopthorpe was really good last time I went - will probably need booking.

Have also enjoyed the lysander Arms. Would get away without booking if got there fairly early.

In the city itself, the greyhound is supposed to do good Sunday lunches but is more of a restaurant.

Again in the city, I also hear good things about the Royal Oak on goodramgate. I've never eaten but have gone for a drink and it is nice.

Echo the Woodman in Bishopthorpe. You might also try the Black Bull(?) at Naburn (I think, sorry if wrong nane but there's only one in the village). Both are good. The Plough in Guilford also good, as is the Stone Trough at Kirkham. All these are out of town though. The Royal Oak mentioned above is OK but not special special, but I can't think of anywhere better in town.

Fulford, not Guilford.

The pub in Naburn (Blacksmiths Arms) is very good. Probably would book. We should try the Woodman too at some time Smile

The Plough also good (we live between Fulford and Naburn Smile)

The Drovers in Skipwith is brilliant.
