Where to stay in / near Oxford

Heading to see some friends close to Reading in October (they can't put us up) and so we need to find a hotel or ideally holiday cottage that's not too far from them (45 mins drive max) but also easy to explore Oxford as there's lots I would like to take the kids there too.

Has anyone stayed anywhere nice they would like to share? Looking for names of villages or actual hotels / cottages if anyone can recommend some :-)

It's all of us so needs to be family friendly as the DCs are both under 6.

I found a lovely cottage in Hook Norton when I went last year. It was on Airbnb, called Turpin Lodge.

We've stayed here on our way down to Cornwall. There's a trampoline in the garden for the children. www.mychieveley.co.uk/info/theoldfarmhouse

We've airbnb'd in oxford a few times and never had a bad experience there - I think quite a lot of people have reasons why airbnb-ing their property makes sense.
