Does anyone here know all the Haven parks in Wales? Which is best?

Hi,

We are lucky enough to have been given a voucher for a Haven break from a disability charity (our son has autism) and we are considering booking at one of the Wales sites. We usually stay in Norfolk (which is where we live) so this is a huge deal for us, lots of driving and with our son having special needs we want to get the place right!

We are torn between the sites - they all look quite similar but I can’t seem to find out if the beaches are all sandy, or whether they’re pebbled? Ds loves the beach and hates it when it’s pebbles so that’s one of the deciding things for us.

We will be going in term time so not overly worried about it being too busy. (Ds attends a complex needs school and they will happily authorise a break).

Ideally we’d like to be able to go on some day trips to see some moutains and waterfalls etc too so I don’t know which is best placed for that. Confused!

Any experiences welcome!!

Greenacres is next to a sandy beach which is easily accessible. Near to Porthmadog, Portmerion (which has a beach) and Snowdonia. Plenty to do around there.

Thank you, that’s the main one we’re swinging towards. The photos online make it look lovely... but then they would! They all look quite nice so it’s hard to choose between them. I’m nervous about driving 5 hours away and then ending up somewhere we don’t like.

We've stayed at Quay West Haven. The caravan was lovely (it was a private rent).

The beach is sandy but is a walk down a woodland path to get there, takes about 10 mins maybe more if you are in one of the far caravans?

The pool was nice, very warm and clean with a little slide.

The restaurant and bar were pretty bad. Food looked grim (so we didn't eat there!) and long wait for service at the bar but not sure if that's because it was school holidays busy or if it's like that all the time. Staff seemed completely disorganised. There are nice pubs and restaurants nearby though.

There is a big amusement arcade thing by the restaurant with bright lights and noise, not sure if that would be an issue, but I think a lot of Haven parks have these?

It is a beautiful part of the world, lots of walks, beaches, beautiful fishing villages like aberaeron and there is a waterfall at cenarth (30 min drive away).

However, little indoor stuff to do in rainy weather.

Hafan y Mor another lovely one.

Ds is autistic and loves green acres

It is one of the smaller sites which I think helps a lot. Staff have always been fantastic with him to.

We’ve only been to Hafan Y Mor and we visited Easter this year. 8 year old son loved it! There is lots going on though, which may or may not suit you, and from memory the beach area is largely pebbles/rocks with sandy patches. Very child friendly, staff lovely, well located for Snowdonia, Porthmadog, Caernarfon and Harlech castles plus other attractions. I think it’s busier and larger than some of the other parks in N Wales, though. Hope that helps.

Kiln Park is lovely and Tenby beach is beautiful. It's all within easy walking distance or you could drive from the park into Tenby town and park there.

Another vote for Kiln Park here too. Lovely sandy beaches in Tenby, a lifeboat station, lots going on and nearby there is loads to do too - dinosaur park, Folly Farm, Manor Park, Blue Lagoon.

If you want mountains and waterfalls then North Wales is probably best though!

Another Kiln Park vote here. Tenby is lovely and Folly Farm well worth a visit.
