Driving to Manchester Airport T2 (without using motorway)

Has anybody done this recently?

I am dropping somebody off at T2 one day next week. Although we live little over 30 minutes away it is a long time since I tried to get to T2 and I am aware that there are lots of recent road changes around there.

I won't be arriving on the motorway but approaching from the Styal direction along Ringway Road.

I tried to follow the route on Google maps and Google Street View but it is very confusing since Street View does not appear to have been updated yet with all the changes so you cannot follow the suggested route.

Any recommendations? Is it easy to follow? I don't want to go massively wrong and make my passenger late for their plane!!

No idea on this one sorry. Have you tried AA route planner?

I think it was blocked last time I drove past, but only my a fence and cone, it didn't look permanent.
Can you not just come through Cheadle Hulme/Heath instead?

Would suggest if you're not a confident driver to drop your friend off at the metolink station, the nearest is Shadowmoss. You have to pay now for drop off and depending on the time of day it can be chaos actually near the terminal and on nearby roads with closures etc.
You can also drop off for free near the net Parks 2 terminal which is signposted and a shuttle bus takes you found to all terminals.

I drove back this way at the weekend from Quarry Bank back to the motorway through the Airport via the Ringway Road. It's OK, but you're right that the closures make it a bit confusing - probably more so the better you know the road, IYSWIM. The lights at the junction with Ringway & Hollin Lane can take a while to get through, though, so I'd leave plenty of time.

Star's idea about a drop off at the metro is a good shout (especially given the new charges for drop off parking), unless they've got lots of luggage, as the stations are a bit of a walk from the terminals - the Metrolink platform is right next to the mainline platforms.

Well I did it this morning and it was fine.

The new bit of road from Hollin Lane to Ringway Road is open and you are forced on to that. However, it was all well signposted and easy to follow. I drove all the way to the T2 drop-off (£3) and it wasn't that busy this morning so I got a bay quite easily and dropped my passenger within sight of the door.

Didn't even get lost coming back because Wilmslow was on the signs.

Glad you managed it ok. That's the difference between school holidays and this week.
