Splash Landings Hotel - Alton Towers

Has anybody been? Tripadvisor reviews totally put me off, sounded awful but other sites are quite positive.

It is quite expensive - found a code GDD which gets you 50% IN June - can't find anything for August though (Surprisingly!!)

Have just returned from Alton Towers (courtesy of Mumsnet comp win - was just about to start a thread). We had a fab time. Our prize was to the Splash Landings Hotel, but in the end we stayed in the other hotel. We ended up being booked into both for some reason and the Alton Towers one seemed a bit more sedate and was more 'our cup of tea' on first impressions. The SL hotel has a total Carribbean theme with loud music etc in the welcome area, and for us, it was a bit much, although the rooms looked nice enough from any pictures I'd seen. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful though.

I'm sure, if we'd ended up in the SL hotel, we'd have enjoyed our stay, but on viewing both and being lucky enough to choose, we plumped for the quieter one.
