My hubby and I have a chance to go away for a short break without our ds...but it's been so long since we've been away as a couple we're stumped!

We have 4 days during the week at the end of July and we'd like to go somewhere peaceful, maybe spending one night in a spa hotel. We love wandering round little towns/villages and I love gardens.

We live in Yorkshire and don't want to travel for hours on end so not the South or Scotland. We've been the Lakes loads before so maybe not there. Any ideas welcome!!

We had a lovely weekend in the Cotswolds near a place called Nailsworth. Lovely walks, very pretty, and gorgeous grown-up lunch with posh wine available by the glass here www.williamsfoodhall.co.uk/restaurant.aspx

We also went to see Giffords circus, which is hilarious and brilliant but the absolute opposite of grown up!

How about the Peak District? Castleton is a very nice little town to stay in and Chatsworth is a good day out.

Ambleside/grassmere

Absolutely wonderful place and romantic to boot

Leamington Spa is a nice town to explore. www.royal-leamington-spa.co.uk/visiting/. The Royal Pump Room Gardens and Jephson Gardens are two lovely parks.
Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Gardens, Warwick Castle and Stratford Upon Avon are really close. Coventry is also worth an explore if you're interested in seeing the amazing cathedral. Warwick castle is definitely at least a whole day out and the gardens are amazing.

Depending on where you are in Yorkshire, Northumberland might work. There are beautiful beaches, little coastal and market towns and there is certainly a spa in Alnwick. Alnwick also has gorgeous gardens and Bamburgh beach (also has a castle) is to my mind one of the loveliest in the UK.

How funny @verbena, I was going to suggest Nailsworth/Stroud too. Had a fab week there last year.

@scribblegirl great minds and all that Wink. We stayed in a gorgeous Airbnb called ‘the Bonnet’. Handmade wooden bed like something from a fairytale and herbs/garlic from her garden.
