If I love Gower and Pembrokeshire where else would I like?

I've become a creature of habit and always go to Gower, sometimes Pembrokeshire and Devon/Cornwall.

I'm ready for a change, can you recommend some places? And accommodation if you have any to rec, for 3 people. No dog.

I'd love to hear where people like to go in the UK.

Depends on why you go there (i don't blame you it's lovely)

If it's for the sea beaches and view then Cornwall coast has some amazing spots. If it's the castles then north east around Scarborough etc has some interesting spots or Kent/dover etc

Northumberland, beaches are absolutely amazing.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 15/06/2018 19:49

Northumberland!

malfoyy · 15/06/2018 20:03

I'm often told I need to try Northumberland, I guess the distance puts me off. I'd have to bite the bullet and just do it!

We do go to Gower etc because of the scenery but I guess we tend to stick to places easily accessible from where we are e.g. M5 and M50/M4 routes. I shiver with horror at the M6 but that could be to do with the time I was trapped in a tail back for 6 hours Sad

What towns/villages in Northumberland would be a good base?

It's the M1 to Northumberland not the M6.

Alnwick, Alnmouth, Bamburgh area I would suggest as good and central.

auntiebasil · 15/06/2018 20:08

Totally agree Northumberland. Or, if that is just too far, North Yorkshire coastline and inland. Bloody gorgeous.

CheshireSplat · 15/06/2018 20:14

The Llyn peninsula is beautiful. N w Wales. Lots of beautiful beaches.

Doje · 15/06/2018 20:14

Agree with Northumberland. Seahouses, as well as Bamburgh and Alnwick.

I also love the Llyn Peninsula. Some really beautiful coastline.

Doje · 15/06/2018 20:15

Ha! Snap Cheshire !

dementedma · 15/06/2018 20:16

Dumfries and Galloway
Orkney ....admittedly a bit of a travel but what a place!

reynoldsnumber · 15/06/2018 20:19

You could get the ferry to Brittany? Like Cornwall but much emptier and with French food... if you go to finisterre you can be the only people on some beaches in summer.

malfoyy · 15/06/2018 20:24

Oops, I forgot about the M1, shows how often I go north of Birmingham!

I'll have a look at the suggested places in Northumberland and check out Yorkshire thank you.

I've considered Brittany/France, would love to see Carnac, but always comes into £££ with ferry - same with Ireland.

The area around Harlech is very pretty, but it depends what type of things you like to do?

If the sea side isn't essential for you, then Derbyshire has some beautiful spots.

applesandpears56 · 15/06/2018 20:25

Lake District
Was going to say Devon and Cornwall

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 15/06/2018 20:29

There’s some lovely bits of Herefordshire and Shropshire. Ironbridge Gorge is a good location if you like a bit of industrial archeology and it’s so beautiful.

Lynton and Lynmouth in Devon are as scenic as Cornwall without being quite so far.

And the Isle of Wight is fun.

feral · 15/06/2018 21:05

I do love Herefordshire- I live on the border! Smile

We went to Lynmouth at Easter - well, Woody Bay.

North of Scarborough is tempting me.

fecketyfeck · 15/06/2018 21:15

If you like Pembrokeshire, try Ceredigion, around the Cardigan Bay Area, instead of turning left at Carmarthen carry straight on, about the same time-wise depending on where in Pemba you visit.

Serin · 16/06/2018 19:05

I love Pembrokeshire, North Norfolk, Llyn Peninsula, Snowdonia, Anglesey, Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Lake district and the Hebrides but have to confess that we have recently come back from the Gower and didn't 'get it' at all. Was so disappointed.

feral · 17/06/2018 07:38

@serin oh no, what do you think was off about Gower?

Am currently in Wales - Levellers at Caerphilly castle last night Smile
