Am doing some research (in a hurry) and need some help. Please recommend some fab UK beaches that are ideal for kids. Any links you may have for sites on them would be even more greatly appreciated.

PS - am looking all over UK.

er bournemouth it quite nice

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:10

I love the beach at Elie in North East Fife.

NoodleStroodle · 18/05/2007 17:11

Weymouth - huge and goes out for miles really shallow but it is big and it does get very busy.

Cloudhopper · 18/05/2007 17:11

Bamburgh in Northumberland. Quiet, clean and sandy.

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:11

Elie Beach .

joash · 18/05/2007 17:12

Portreath in Cornwall. There's a large cave and at low tide - tunnels that they can walk through to the other side of the cliff. Also a stream that flows down the beach into the sea

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:13

The Silver Sands at Aberdour is a Blue Flag beach.

Shoshable · 18/05/2007 17:15

Sandbanks at Poole, or go accross on the ferry to Swanage.

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:15

I loved Lunan Bay as a child. Although I would do a bit more research into this one as there were some unexploded WW1 or WW2 (can't remember which) bombs found there, although that was a few years back and I assume the area must be safe now.

Shoshable - Swanage is fantastic isn't it!? I love the Dorset beaches.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/05/2007 17:20

hijack! - JoshandJamie how did your citizenship ceremony go??

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:21

Some beautiful beaches in the Mull of Kintyre area.

happystory · 18/05/2007 17:22

Pembrokeshire, too many to mention but Whitesands fab

DaddyCool · 18/05/2007 17:23

Pembrokeshire is just beautiful full stop.

MrsSpoon · 18/05/2007 17:25

There is always West Sands in St Andrews or it's lesser known cousin the East Sands .

JoshandJamie · 18/05/2007 17:45

Thanks all - keep em coming!

Purplemonkey - ceremony went fine thanks, although I obviously didn't take it seriously enough as I turned up in jeans and everyone else was in suits. We also didn't have a camera to take pics and I had my child with me munching his way through a bag of organix goodies the whole time.

But today - hoorah - my british passport arrived - and we leave for Greece on Tuesday for a holiday. Talk about getting it in the nick of time!

Croyde - if you can avoid the surfers. Putsborough. Seaton.

Loads of perfect beaches near Lochaline on the Isle of Mull...just beautiful... but not totally accessible I suppose. Calgary a bit more accesible.

I second Weymouth - great for LOs.

Marazion in Cornwall. In fact so many I can't mention them all. Sorry I know that's not helpful. Polridmouth near Fowey.

WestCountryLass · 18/05/2007 22:21

Oxwich Bay and Port Eynon in the Gower are really nice beaches.

Swanage and Studland in Dorset are nice too but much busier in my experience.

JackieNo · 18/05/2007 22:30

The beaches in Pembrokeshire are fab - I like the ones in Tenby because they're so sandy, also the one in Manorbier, because of the stream that flows down it into the sea - loads of opportunities to make dams etc. And the castle is just above.

Lucycat · 18/05/2007 22:31

Be careful of the tide at Manorbier - it comes in reaaallly fast!

TwirlyN · 18/05/2007 22:32

Putsborough,Putsborough,Putsborough. Long sandy beach in De'on, loadsa rocks, purfect for small rock pools/pools on beach that get nice and warm/ideal rocks for 5+ rock climbing (Dad led). Very Clean, Beautiful location, EXCELLENT surf, Great food/coffees nearby. In between Croyde and Woolacombe, it's a must see/visit beach.

JackieNo · 18/05/2007 22:33

Have you got caught by it, Lucycat?

Nikki76 · 18/05/2007 22:33
