Best uk hotel you stayed in?

Big birthday coming up and think we can wangle 2 nights child free. Have budget of £1k. Would like a nice hotel with spa and gym ideally . We live in Yorkshire so North/Midlands would be good but could go further. Has anyone been somewhere special? We like walks and history but would probably like to enjoy reading in the spa more than anything and just relaxing!

You’re already in Yorkshire so what about the Devonshire Arms? Great walks and nice small spa and lovely restaurant.

Lodge on the loch, beautiful and peaceful, has a pool but no spa, or certainly wasn't last time I was there.

Probably not suitable given the distance but the Lanesborough gets my vote.

I can't put this in a way that won't provoke a lot of ire...so I will just go right out and say it - nothing in the UK really matches the best of the London 5 stars

Swinton Park has a new spa and lots of walks on the estate. The room we stayed in had a "double" bath that could have fitted four people with ease (it was an upgrade). Sign up to their newsletter and they are offering dbb from £199 per night.

Or Rockliffe Hall if you just want the spa and a more modern hotel. Make sure you go when The Orangery is open for dinner.
