Any recommendations?

There’s 3 of us, i’m 9 weeks post op a gall bladder removal and feel really run down and like I need something to help me turn the corner health wise, husband likes to read, drink beer, swim and run, daughter is 8 and can swim well, is very lovely and amenable. I was thinking a hotel or a self catering place with access to a pool/spa? We live in London but will be in Cheshire over Xmas, Would prefer It wasn’t extortionate.

it is going to be extortionate if you want facilities / things to do i'm afraid. you might be as well to try and find a premier inn/Travelodge type hotel with a pool and stay in that because at least you will get the pool element of your holiday if not the spa.

also most places don't want to turn around rooms at this time of year due to staffing so breaks in between Christmas and new year are really difficult to find.

what about staying somewhere like Bath in a basic hotel with pool and using the spa there?

Self catering is really unlikely to do twixt Christmas breaks so would concentrate on hotels.

Take a look at Crewe Hall, maybe a bit pricey but it's lovely, also titanic spa (not sure on the opening hours). They have little apartments attached but you eat at the spa.

Alternatively there are a few around Warrington (hotels with pools) that may be a bit more reasonably priced.
