Hotel recommendation for Harry Potter world?

Thinking of buying tickets for next year as Christmas presents but we will need to stay near the studios. Can anyone recommend anywhere? I'd prefer to stay for three nights or so to make the most of travelling into London too so would consider an AirBNB. I'd rather not divide the family up into Travelodge type hotel rooms.

Would you want to stay near the attraction or more central? It's a way outside of London really. What other things in London were you hoping to do?

I wanted to stay near the studios really in a bid to keep the cost down! We've been to London many times (we've since moved) so the attraction isn't really London but more a mini break type thing with the studios being the highlight.

I've seen young families at Aubrey Park and it says on their website to phone to discuss arrangements for a family.

We stayed at the jury's inn about 10 mins away, it was lovely.

We stayed at the nearest premier inn, Watford I think. Reasonable, close, family rooms and a decent standard of accommodation.

We stayed in Sopwell House when we went, would highly recommend the Mews there! :) Pricey though - good for special occasions!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn just off the M1. Perfectly nice, has a pool - but nothing much in walking distance, you would need to have a car.

i'm from Watford originally and wouldn't recommend it as a place to stay at all , ( Cassiobury park is really lovely and worth a visit if you have time though). I'd stay in St.Albans or maybe somewhere like Tring or Berkhamsted.

We stayed at Shendish Manor as it was such good value. It was cheaper then the Holiday Inn when we went.
