something to do in London in the evening that doesn't cost £££££

We're staying a couple of nights in London, and I naively thought we might go to the theatre. Having had a look, and being shocked by the prices (how do people afford these prices - we're not badly off, but paying £85 a ticket is just not on) I'm stumped for what to do, except to go to the pub. Any suggestions?

Go to the ticket booth in Leicester Square for same day theatre tickets at reduced prices.

Look at the smaller theatres. Sadlers wells used to be good value. Some museums do late night opening too.

Or you could book an evening tour

Have a look for "lates" events. Lots of the attractions do them - sealife/dungeons/museums/galleries at different times.
Walking tours?
Indoor crazy golf/orbit/giant ballpit place if It's open.
Loads to do - look at timeout listings.

Curry on brick lane. Walk along the south bank. As pp poster said, cheaper theatre tickets available at Leicester sq ticket booth. Check out if there are any late night opening exhibitions at museums or galleries. What part of town are you staying in?

British Museum and a walk around Russell Square and Bloomsbury. There's a couple of good pubs in the area the British Museum staff go to, if you fancy a conversation about wonderful things.

We did a Jack the Ripper tour- it was fab! Ended up in Brick Lane, which is great for a curry, or you could go to one of the many places to eat in Shoreditch.

I normally get theatre tickets on lastminute.com and meal deals on Groupon.

I got a ticket for Venus in Fur with Natalie Dormer in it at the Haymarket fir £15 on Saturday from Lastminute. Just booked at lunchtime. Sure, I was high up, but it's a great show and a gorgeous theatre, I didn't mind. The National had £15 tickets for something too.

Walk along Southbank (or Northbank!) from Westminster Bridge to Waterloo Bridge, then make your way to Gordon's Wine Bar, a hugely atmospheric, Dickensian place beneath Waterloo Bridge: drippy candles, blackened brick vaults and arches, some great wines and cheese etc.
