North Norfolk-where is best to base ourselves?

Having settled on North Norfolk for a break next year, we are having trouble narrowing down an area to stay. Are we best to be right on the coast, or a little way away? Would that mean driving to coast, parking issues etc? Please give an recommendations for cottages or days out!

Wells Next the Sea is on the coast but central for North Norfolk coastline. Do you have small children - Wells ticks all the boxes for them - harbour with crabbing, boat trips, childrens play area, nice small town to wander around, little railway down to Pinewoods and lovely sandy beach, also a steam railway a little way out of town that takes you to Walsingham.

if you are walkers, there are great walks from Wells along the coast or in the Woods to Holkham Hall (again lots of activities there for children), or the other way eg to Stiffkey.

There is a beach car park at Wells but gets very busy in summer - may be better to park in town and get the little train or walk to the beach.

We have spent many weeks over the past 20 years based in Wells and never get bored, starting when my children were babies/toddlers they are now 19 and 21 and still love it! Surrounding area eg Blakeney (for seal trips), Burnham Market, Holt is lovely to explore too.

I second Wells. Also, Happisburgh, Waxham and Sea Palling are great to visit. Horsey for seal spotting too. Norfolk is wonderful, so many lovely places to go!

Wells next the sea, Hunstanton, if you're camping there's a beautiful campsite at Sandringham where there's woods etc to explore.
