Nice hotel for anniversary night, within 2 hours from Oxford

Hi, I'm looking for a nice hotel within a couple of hours of Oxford (I guess that could include London) for our anniversary. I'm thinking something like Malmaison perhaps, so around £100-£150? Any ideas?

Thanks WWW. Just after I posted this I found another thread you started sometime last year (?) - I think it was you and you ended up going to 1 Aldwych - and have been reading/drooling all afternoon!

We had our wedding night at The Old Parsonage in Oxford - fab.

Why leave Oxford? What about The Old Bank ?
The Eastgate (but no room service), The Randolph - that's really nice.

We live in London but still go to London hotels for a naughty night.

Too close to home, I guess. I fancy somewhere different so I can really switch off, try a different restaurant for dinner, etc.

Most of the London hotels suggested in the other threads are a bit too expensive for us. I like The Zetter but the only room for £150 looks like it's tiny. I also found a lovely looking one in Cirencester and very reasonably priced but it's fully booked. I'm waiting to hear back from Hotel Du Vin in Henley or we might go for Malmaison London. DH and I used to work near Clerkenwell when we lived in London so it might be fun to go back to that area.

hang on there was a thing about the most romantic hotel in the country being in Reading of all places - hang on - will go google.

the forbury haven't checked prices though.

Think it was voted in the Sunday Times or something - has been mentioned on mumsnet before.

I grew up there. Yes the Forbury's nice BUT a romantic night in READING? Please, we must be able to do better !

The Forbury looks lovely, but it is also quite expensive. And yes, Reading, hmm...

yes- reading is not quite the place is it!

the feathers woodstock always used to do the most wonderful food. Looked a lovely place to stay- it's on my list to do sometime. Then you can go for a romantic walk arounf Blenheim- walk up the hill and there's a free (and quiet) entrance to the grounds.

Ooohhh, I got excited about the idea of The Feathers, but they only accept two-night bookings at weekends.

DH now says he doesn't want to go to London and he's suggesting something like The Crazy Bear in Stadhampton.

It was my thread last year and we did go to One Aldwych and it was fab! OK, just looking through my favourites for you...

The Old Priory? Cheaper but I haven't been.

but sorry, I can't recommend any as I haven't been but they're in my favourites for various reasons.

The Grove, Hertfordshire is lovely. Great grounds, great spa, modern but romantic

We stayed here last year. It was our first night away without DD (then 3) and a few weeks before DS was born. We thought it a great treat. The food was excellent and the service friendly. It's in a beautiful position with an amazing view over the Vale of Evesham. We drove there from Oxford in well under two hours.

I would not recommend The Feathers in Woodstock. It's comfortable and the food is good, but the service, at least in the restaurant, is rather off-hand.
