We're booked to go to Whinfell next month and have found out that friends will be there at the same time, at opposite end of the site. I remember from being there before that mobile coverage is patchy. I also seem to remember that there are phones in the lodges - can these be used to call lodge to lodge, or just lodge to reception??

It depends which lodge you are in, I'm sure they have stopped putting them in the new ones!

I'm sat in a lodge right now. There is no phone.

I am Elveden though, but they're identical lodges.

I have a dual SIM mobile. My O2 SIM has a good signal and 4G data connection. The EE SIM has no signal most of the time.

It could be worth picking up a SIM card from a different network to your own before you go? A lot of companies do them for free or 99p in supermarkets.

Is there wifi? Last time we were there some of the lodges had it, some didn't.

I think Whinfell is a bit of a Cumbrian black spot in the hills for mobile coverage. If there's wifi, we can message without sending texts.

WiFi all over now. EE works ok

I'm on Vodafone, don't know what the other mum's on. Good news that there's wifi everywhere, kids will be delighted!

I live near Whinfell. Vodafone coverage is very good in the area, everything else is very bad.

I was at Whinfell last October (again there for Bonfire night!) Grin and there was DEFINITELY a phone because I was called by staff to tell me my daughter's musical movers class had been cancelled!

BUT ...

I'm not sure if that phone is for staff to lodge only. I vaguely remember they tried to call on my mobile or DH's and neither could get through. But I could be making that up.

I am definitely not making up about the phone in the lodge. It was a 3-bed exec lodge (with sauna) in Bilberry Woods opposite the big park 2 mins from the main entrance into the complex.
