My family of 4 + dog want to visit a friend staying near Pontefract at the weekend she's not familiar with the area in terms of walks and dog friendly pubs and we're not from there either, does anyone have any suggestions? I know Sundays can be busy and may need to book

I live in Pontefract. There is newmillerdam on the other side of Wakefield, I know there's a dog friendly pub there and it's a lovely walk around the lake. Also roundhay park in Leeds and the roundhay fox pub is a lovely pub with proper log fire and dog-friendly. Can't think of anywhere closer with a pub.... but fairburn ings RSPB just outside Pontefract is a lovely dog-friendly walk and there are other activities for the children (nature trail, pond dipping, den building etc). Hope this helps.

I loved the sound of newmillerdam but hadn't known till now that we're going to try and meet somewhere more half way and looking on google that would be Northallerton and surrounding areas, anyone have any ideas for walk/pubs around that neck of the woods?

Just read your update about Northallerton, but, if you're ever up our way again, there's a great pub (Crooked Billet, make their Yorkshire puddings in a loaf tin) who are super dog friendly, and the walk from outside the pub leads to the historical battleground of Towton. Lovely walk and roast next time you're up north. Enjoy!

Should add that this is in Saxton - just off M1/A1. That would have been useful information!
