Do many hotels charge for parking?

I've just been charged £10 to park in a hotel car park and I'm astonished. Is this common?

Yes it is in some prime city centre locations. I always check now.

I've looked back at the website. The room rate is quoted above these bullet points 'free wi fi; complimentary mineral water; tea/coffee making facilities; flat screen TV; on site parking.' I suppose there may get be a clue in that unlike the mineral water it is not described as complimentary, but then again I wasn't charged for the use of the telly. Now that I know that some hotels do charge, I feel even more misled by these bullet points!

If it was in a city, yes loads do, if it was a country house type with loads of land they're cheeky buggers!

Only time I've ever got free parking at a hotel is really fancy ones. Everywhere else especially city centre locations have charged varying prices
