Hippy at heart - where to live?

That's just it really...

Ideally an hour or so from London (Notting Hill), good for kids (ages 1, 7 and 8), and in / very near to a town / city.

All ideas welcome!

Any hippies out there?!

Stroud, it's further from London than you want though.

MonkeyPoozzled76 · 24/07/2017 18:47

I was coming on the say Totnes in Devon, it's lovely and v. hippy but too far from London for you. I'd like to retire down there! Second on the hippy list for me would be glastonbury but again too far. Perhaps for a hippy holiday?

SittingAround1 · 24/07/2017 18:49

Brighton?

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 24/07/2017 18:51

I came to say Totnes, Glastonbury or Tintagel.

You are just NOT going to get alternative within an hour of Notting Hill. No way!

confusedandemployed · 24/07/2017 18:53

Yeah Stroud your best bet. About 2hrs from Paddington on the train.

Rhubarbtart9 · 24/07/2017 18:54

Stroud

Rhubarbtart9 · 24/07/2017 18:56

What do you particularly want life style wise (semi rural? House price? Schooling type?)

TrainedGiant · 24/07/2017 18:57

Brighton is the closest to London you will get. Or stay in London and move to Dalston?

Further afield the three famous alternative enclaves are Stroud, Totnes and Hebden Bridge.

2014newme · 24/07/2017 18:57

Totnes for sure but it's not an hour from London

PearlyPinkNails · 24/07/2017 19:05

No where that close to town really

artiface · 24/07/2017 20:14

Again...further away but
Totnes
Bridport
Lyme Regis
Lewes (not too far from London)

exWifebeginsat40 · 24/07/2017 20:16

glastonbury town is a weird, uncomfortable place. i didn't like it at all. Stroud is fab tho.

Twodogsandahooch · 24/07/2017 20:18

Lewes

MyDressIsBold · 24/07/2017 20:26

I was going to say Stroud too!

crazycatguy · 24/07/2017 20:27

Cambridge :)

froggers1 · 24/07/2017 20:28

Brighton for sure..

exWifebeginsat40 · 24/07/2017 21:00

yeah, brighton is lovely.

TrainedGiant · 24/07/2017 21:00

Lewis used to be alternative but now it's so upper middle class establishment that it's a parody of itself.

AlbusPercival · 24/07/2017 21:01

Forest Row?

RiverTam · 24/07/2017 21:01

I was going to say Hebden Bridge but that's a bit far!

I'm in a bit of SE London that can feel quite hippyish, DD's school is very dippy hippy.

squashyhat · 24/07/2017 21:17

I knew Forest Row would appear on this thread sooner or later. You would fit right in Grin

FagAshMIL · 24/07/2017 21:26

What goes on.in Stroud?

lavendergardenmint · 24/07/2017 21:29

Hebden Bridge is great for free spirits. But it does depend what you mean OP. Are you a hippy who wears her baby in a designer sling you could afford because your DH has a well paid job or are you living off the fat of the land hippy?

FaFoutis · 24/07/2017 21:49

Are there any hippy places in the midlands? Preferably east midlands?
