Things to do in Northumberland if it rains?

Going for a week in August. There seems to be loads to do but virtually everything is outdoors! Any ideas for things to do in bad weather? We'll be near Alnwick.

Also, what is the weather generally like in August?

Cragside is a NT property that's a bit different.
We've had a couple of August holidays up there and the weather has been fab. If things get desperate it's only an hour to Newcastle.

Take waterproofs and go out anyway- it should be warmish rain! We are going in July and i think you need to plan for mixed weather. Trip up to Bamburgh- visit castle ( mostly inside ) and Grace Darling museum and picnic (maybe in the car) on the fab sausage rolls from the butcher in the green wouldn't be that bad in the rain.

You can't predict the weather anywhere in the UK at any time! Obviously the north is slightly cooler even when it's hot in the south.

Cragside is great and you can stay in the house.
Are you taking young DCs? If you are, Cragside would be limiting for them if it's wet.

There are castles- Bamburgh is the most obvious- and there are others not too far away. If you are feeling brave, there are boats that go to the Farne Isles or you could drive to Holy Island (when the tide is out :))

I am sure there is a N'land Tourist Board guide online- have a google.
If it's pouring and wet get into Newcastle or the Metrocentre if you want to shop.

Take a waterproof and just enjoy most stuff with the exception of the beach if it rains.

Castles! Warkworth, Alnwick, Bamburgh are all good.

Fish n chips in Amble or Seahouses
Their is also a good soft play in Amble if you have young dc.

Ford to Etal steam railway line for young dc

If you are happy to travel Newcastle is about 40 mins away and they have the centre for life and seven stories.
