Have decided to go to S Pembrokeshire area for our hols this year but have now got a headache looking at the zillions of self-catering pictures from the equally zillions of websites!!!!!!! So - can anyone actually recommend anywhere please? Would prefer it to be walking distance to a nice beach but its not a deal breaker iyswim. Or just recommend a website - they all LOOK ok but the accommodation may be baaaaaad for all I know! Need to get this sorted before there's nowhere left and dds' cry! TIA

Do you want to be in a town like Tenby or middle of nowhere? Not sure I can recommend a company but what's your criteria?

Polgara2 · 19/03/2007 13:45

Well, no not rural, want to be close to a beach, preferably walking distance but short drive would be ok. There will be 4 of us. Not bothered whether it's an apartment or cottage/house. Must be uber clean though am a bit neurotic about that . Not keen on chintzy either - but I'm being picky now aren't I!! Thanks

We used coastalcottages.co.uk

They were really good, and we have found somewhere nr St Davids.

National Trust cottages can't be beaten. The Stackpole Estate cottages are 2 minutes walk from Stackpole Quay (ok beach, fantastic tea shop), and 15 minutes walk over the cliffs from Barafundle Bay (probably the most beautiful spot in the whole of the country, if not the world).

We use coastal cottages of pembrokeshire aswell - really reliable & friendly. We are going to a cottage in Newgale at the end of August for a week. Have tried out quite a few and love the area - Tenby is great but very busy in the holidays (all my relatives live there!) - but favourite beach is Whitesand near St Davids.

All the places we have stayed in have been really clean and tidy.

Only time we left early was 2 years ago - 70 mile an hour winds for 4 days and horizontal rain was too much for us!

Do you definitely want a cottage? as this caravan site, Saundersfoot Bay is lovely. The mobile homes are top quality, you can walk through the forest to the beach and this is the same sand that you can walk round to Saundersfoot at low tide.

are caravans a bit chintzy for you?

DeviousDaffodil · 19/03/2007 17:59

Tenby itself has everyting you would need with a young family, but can get congested.
All of the beaches nearby are gorgeous.
Parents have a caravan in New Hedges which is quiet but near the beaches too.

Can thoroughly recommend here: Old Oak Barn . Stayed last Easter for a week and off there again this Easter with dh and ds1 and ds2.

They have another property in Pembrokeshire, which I've not stayed in, but looks grand from the website: Puffin House

Mumbojumbo · 19/03/2007 18:01

Forgot to say - Old Oak Barn doesn't quite fit what you are after as it's in St Clears but is lovely non the less. Puffin House is very close to the beach at Broadhaven.

We love it here - really good accommodation

oh wow - look what happens when you go off to tend to your children! Thanks for all these suggestions - am just going to start ploughing through them now.

oh btw lucycat - I didn't mention caravans becaused the only time I have ever stayed in a caravan it was freezing cold at night (probably because the bedrooms were parked under a wooded bit!!)and quite expensive for the privilege so it's probably put me off!!

Oh yes Saundersfoot is lovley a bit quieter than Tenby, but good facilities.

Lucycat · 21/03/2007 17:34

well they aren't cheap, but none of their vans are more than 3 years old, so nice and clean with central heating and the site is lovely too, just no playground.

Any decisions yet?

anniebear · 27/03/2007 21:56

defo take a look at Frank Masons, we have always found it to be really reasonable

anniebear · 27/03/2007 21:58

www.fbmholidays.co.uk/

Have to book quick though!

But they have really reasonable houses

Saundersfoot is lovely but don't stay right in the village, there are annoying young lads who drive their noisy cars through very fast!!

You HAVE TO go to Folly Farm. My DD cried the toher night because she knows we are not going this year

It is the best place I have ever taken the children to
