Following on from my thread here i've decided i'm going to see her at the end of this month.

Does anyone know of a decent bed a breakfast which is near the pier etc or in Fratton that isn't too expensive.

Radley, my DH would say Southampton, but then he is a veteran Pompy hater.

You won't find any b&bs in Fratton. Which pier? There's quite a few b&bs near South Parade pier (Waverley Road & the side streets around that area) Don't know what they're like though, some look pretty rough from the outside. There's also a few right on the seafront.

If it's Clarence Pier (where the fair is) there's a Holiday Inn there & also Old Portsmouth & Gunwharf are closeby which has lots of nice B&Bs & another Holiday Inn. (Old Portsmouth's probably quite expensive though).

There's also a Travellodge in North End, which is quite close to Fratton.

hope this helps

Yes, agree portsmouth is not a pretty place! Though it does have the seafront and gunwharf now, which is worth a look - and the spinnaker tower? I don't know specific places to stay but I would second staying in North End rather than fratton, which is kind of the rough end of town.

From greedy's accommodation link, I would go for Victoria Mount house, in The Vale, Southsea, that's a lovely area and full of character, loads of big victorian piles, and very near the shops in palmerston road - nice area.
