Tips for YORK and YHAs - kids 6, 8, 8, and 10

Wedgiesmum and I plus children are having a short week in York in August staying at the YHA. YHA is a first for us, so any YHA tips appreciated.

My grandparents lived near York and my parents both went to school there, so I know it quite well. We will of course do: Railway Museum, Jorvik, Castle Museum, Walls, Minster, Shambles, The Lakeland shop(!), etc.
Any other ideas of things to entertain three lively junior boys, and one demure young girl?

Have you requested a family room? Other wise the dorms are split male/female.
The kitchens are normaly very well equiped but can be a battle for a grill or toaster in the morning .
