baby/family friendly hotels accessible by train + on foot

we have a 3 year old DS and a month old baby DS2, and no car or ability to drive. with just DS, we went on trains and sometimes taxis too to get to hotels like Bedruthan Steps. Now with two littles, getting into a taxi with luggage etc seems impossible. Can anyone recommend good baby-friendly hotels, with good food, but walking distance from a train station. Seaside, historic town, anywhere really....

You might not think it is your cup of tea, but how about Butlins?

They have national express drop straight to the door.

Bognor regis has a hotel, but we go to Minehead and stay in a chalet / apartment.

And as the advert says - the kids love it! (ours are 2 and 3yo)

am bumping this as I'm sure there are others committed to using public transport to have good uk-based holidays...

Centreparcs are pretty train-friendly I think?

Also, we use minicabs for trips to the airport etc, and get a Sharon (I tihnk?), which has fitted carseats, and is huge. More difficult to arrange for a train to hotel transfer, though, I think.

I used to have a huge repertoire of these as a result of carsickness - will see what I can dig out.
Old-fashioned spa and resort towns like Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Bath, Cheltenham, Scarborough, Canterbury, Buxton etc are all possibilities.

I can also recommend sending one parent in a taxi from the station to the hotel with the luggage while the other walks with the kids.

But families with cars get all thier stuff in...so it should be possible in a taxi? Plus with most taxi firms now you can ask fro an estate car or a people carrier?

Anyway...Whitstable? Sheringham? Cromer?

Cromer is more family friendly as it has a sandy beach - will try and find out which are the good hotels on the seafront.

The Seaview or The Priory Bay, Isle of Wight. You can get the train to within walking distance of the foot ferry, which takes you into Ryde. You would need a taxi from there but it is only about a 10 min drive. Alternatively, I'm pretty sure both of these hotels will send a boat to pick you up from Portsmouth and take you direct - I bet it isn't cheap though!

MrsBadger wouldn't it be too tempting to just dump the luggage and get 'lost' in the hotel

have just checked both websites. the priory bay definitely has a launch. not sure about the seaview - i'm sure something could be arranged - plenty of boats around for sure!

oooh, I want to be picked up by boat and taken to a hotel, how fantastically exciting!

yes it all sounds rather divine in a kind of agatha christie 1930s way!

Even the fact that it is a 'launch'!
