Short break up to 2 hours from York

My little boy has been poorly so we haven't been able to make a trip away with the parents in law to northern Northumberland. I would really like to go away for a night or 2 later in the week. Looking for some inspiration of where to go or any nice hotels to stay in please

Edinburgh, loads to do and see and hotels for all budgets.

Was also going to suggest Edinburgh

North York Moors? Whitby? Saltburn? All lovely places. You can go on the steam train, to the beach, forest stuff at Dalby. Nice villages and museums.

The Ellerby hotel, just north of Whitby is lovely.
