anyone experience of this?

the £70 is for linen, linen deposit(returnable), entertainment passes and gas&leccy.

can see a cheap week costing a bomb

IS IT WORTH IS??

when i went to butlins it was over £100 extras - something like £30 for gas.

pontins didnt charge anything extra at all last year but even they are charging £30 this year.

suppose it depends when you going. we are going the week the kids are off school at easter so for us its still very cheap.

Overtiredmum · 26/02/2007 18:59

Yes, I had this last year. There were four adults and one baby, the total weekend cost us 100 quid .............. without spending money. Personally, I didn'y think it was worth it because we didn't use any of the facilities, just the club house in the evening and didn't stay on site during the day, we went out because the place was quite naff really. Think we spent another 150-200 that weekend

PanicPants · 26/02/2007 19:00

Yes we had the same. We've had to pay an extra £100 on top. But it's still relatively cheap.

ssd · 26/02/2007 20:42

we're going to Haggerston Castle 15-19 Oct, don't know how much it would cost normally?

just seems expensive for £9.50!

charliecat · 26/02/2007 20:49

ssd · 26/02/2007 20:50

OP posts:
charliecat · 26/02/2007 20:50

dunno, have a look...

ssd · 26/02/2007 21:14

charliecat · 26/02/2007 21:15

Well..I am going to pontins and made the mistake of looking at the difference...(£5)

ssd · 26/02/2007 21:17

its all a con eh?

OP posts:
charliecat · 26/02/2007 21:40

well your saving 40...so mentally im stealing 20 of your savings to make mine seem better...do you HAVE to pay now youve booked? i am coz we have never had a family holiday and it was 30 extra, not 100.
But you will be going with a bitter taste...all these costs WERE mentioned BTW, but you forget to relook after youve ben told so many dates arent available.

Skribble · 26/02/2007 22:50

You can take your own linen to save on that.

misdee · 26/02/2007 22:54

yues take your own linen. my kids have sleeping bags, we take those.

diudnt you check all the extra charges when you choose your sites? i always go for the ones with the lowest charges.

ssd · 27/02/2007 07:45

I didn't check the extras, just thought they were included.

still want to go though, haven't had a holiday for ever, boys will love it

Check with the site regarding the entertainment passes. I queried mine last year and this year - my ds will be 2 this time around and even though this was put on the original application, I was still charged for entertainment pass for him which when queried was not needed for his age. Different places have different rules about what age needs them so is worth checking. Also the point about taking your own linen is a good one, we always take our own - at least it is in the car when checking in as some places you collect at check in and then need to fit in your car to get to your accommodation. You also may need to return it with your keys at the end of your stay depending on where you are.

mysonsmummy · 27/02/2007 10:42

charliecat - when are you going?

pontins have only just stated charging this year. prob because everyone else does. the reason we used them was because others charged so many extras. i was be worried when i read this. our week is £235 if i booked it on-line today so dont feel so bad.

its true about the entertainment passes etc its only ds and i so i will ring and cancel the other passes.

charliecat · 27/02/2007 11:14

Going in april MSM

ssd · 27/02/2007 16:17

me too....

we're rapidly going off this deal, trouble is if we don't go we lose £38, if we go we pay over £100 for a holiday advertising itself as £9.50 each for 4 people....................

can't afford to go, can't afford to lose £38

OP posts:
mysonsmummy · 28/02/2007 09:25

and then the spending money on top.

why is it so much - i know butlins was expensive but they got so much free when you get there. whats the costs for? is it in school hols?

i dont blame you for being bit fed up about it.

foxtrot · 02/03/2007 13:36

I agree the extra charges are annoying. Like others have suggested take your own linen. And make sure you take all your basic supplies with you (eg washing up liquid, cereal) as the on-site shops can be very expensive. We always take food and alcohol too, stuff that's easy to prepare. Site looks good

Bubbaloo · 02/03/2007 14:02

The extra charges are annoying but it does state what they are on the booking form. That particular site is also a very lively one, which I'm sure you'll enjoy-we've been to Haggeston Castle and apart from the long car journey(we're in Essex),thoroughly enjoyed it.

TwoToTango · 02/03/2007 14:44

Agree with Bubbaloo - extra charges can mount up (we always take our own linen) but if when the Sun doe the pullout in the paper underneath each site it tells you if you will have to pay extra for entertainment passes or elec or if these things are free.
Perhaps you could try to sell the holiday - I have seen people selling them on Ebay.

have to say though I've never been disappointed and i've been on quite a few of the Sun holidays

ssd · 09/03/2007 16:35

we've decided to go and we've upgraded the caravan (in for a penny!!)

thanks for all advice here, is anyone else going on the sun holidays yet?
