how clean do you leave a self catering holiday property

Just that really, how much cleaning do you do on a self catering holiday and how do you leave the property when you go?
Do you expect it is ok to not clean up - cos you've paid....? Or do you do your best to tidy up?

I have been in the holiday let business for several years now and while the majority (75%) leave the properties clean, by this I mean just a general wipe around and vac, the other 25% leave them in a terrible state. I have cleaned the mess off toilets, snot off walls in children's rooms, hoovered stairs with what only seemed like the family-sized packets of crisps, popcorn and anything else that was eaten and dropped to name but a few.
Just because you have paid to stay somewhere nice on holiday does not give you the right to be unhygienic and lazy.....

RE: If you rent holiday cottages out to people and they find it less than sparkling when they arrive then they will leave it less than sparkling. You are demonstrating to them what your standards are by the state it is in when they arrive.

What I mean by less than sparkling is dirty pots and dishes left in cupboards by guests. Our cottage is let out for as little as £270 for 7 nights in winter. Surely guests can put in 15 minutes of effort each day to wash and dry things properly. I suppose I wouldn’t feel so frustrated if they didn’t also leave blood, makeup and hair dye on the bedding and towels.

I'm a bit bemused by owners asking guests just to wash up rather than running the dishwasher before they leave? I guess this would explain why I've sometimes arrived at a holiday cottage to find the crockery\cutlery not as clean as I'd expect. As the next guest, I'd rather everything had been given a decent wash in the dishwasher!

Not every holiday let has a dishwasher. I’ve stayed in numerous holiday lets that don’t.
