My parents have offered to come and look after DS for a weekend - where should DH and I go?

We live in East London and I would like somewhere within 2-3 hours drive (in case we need to come back in a hurry). Money isn't a big issue, but I don't want to spend really silly amounts. We both like really good food and walking, so perhaps somewhere in the South Downs would be good or along the coast.

I would particularly like somewhere with a 'focus' eg where the owners are passionate about organic food or provide treatments. But equally if the place is comfortable enough dh and I can make our own amusement (ie stay in bed all day ).

Ooh Strattons is a Mr and Mrs Smith hotel, I feel sure. Will have a think and post if I have a blindingly good idea Bran.

Just in case anyone was interested (and to make you all with envy) I ended up booking a room for 2 nights at the Bell Hotel . It's owned by the same people who own The Place at Camber Sands and the restaurant is supposed to be very good. DH was a bit non-committal about every other place I showed him so I have not told him where we are going, it will be a surprise.

I'm with Indignatio, Ashdown Park is lovely. My friend celebrated her 40th there and we had a pampering day with treatments and used the gym, pool, sauna, steam-room etc. It is in a truly beautiful setting in Ashdown Forest (Winnie-the-Pooh country). Treat yourself!
