Summer holiday ideas

I like mountains, walking and solitude, but our teenage kids want beaches and bars - any ideas UK or abroad? Budget is around 1k (bit more for abroad). I would prefer not a package.

Not sure i it would work on your budget but Corsica has both mountains and gorgeous beaches. Or Crete?

Thanks for those suggestions GeorgeHerbert - both dream destinations for me apart from the heat in August. We have gone for Northern Ireland in the end, so I will get my scenery and my wifi dependent son can just fly home when we drive out to the wild north west!
