bacton/norfolk - what is it like/is it nice??

hi,
we've spent some lovely holidays in norfolk (cley-next-the-sea and weybridge) whilst living in the uk, are coming back in august and am looking to book a chalet in bacton. we've never been to that area - does anyone know what it's like, is it more the amusement arcade sort of place or would we like it (we're both musicians, more arty types)with a 3 yr old daughter?

I don't think there is much in the village

Near to STalham which is nice - shoe shops, farmers market, an antique shop & a nice wood shop

Sea Palling is a lovel beach - virtually nothing there at all

The Swan at Ingham is a lovely pub & the Kingfisher at Stalham does lovely food but is a bit 60's/OAP to look at. The Wayford Bridge is a really posh pub

You will be close to Wroxham - which has lots, wroxham Barns (kiddy farm), Roys (a department stove in a village) boats to hire

I've been staying in Bacton in a lovely chalet for the past 3 years (going back at Easter). My son is now 4 and loves it. We've also travelled all over Norfolk. What we like about Bacton (and the nearby area) is quiet charm. We stay on Seaview Estate and a few minutes traffic free stroll take us onto the beach. We've been in a heatwave in August and had it virtually to ourselves. It suits us as we can let DS run about and play in the sea, sand etc. in an entirely stress-free way with minimal humping of stuff to and fro the beach. For self catering Bacton has a marvellous farm shop - all locally grown fruit, veg, meat etc. fish n chip shop, take-away and a really family friendly pub with great play area. Surrounding Bacton are quiet lanes and interesting Happisburgh (visit the pub before it falls into the sea). Mundesley is a short drive and has more facilities and amusements. There's an indoor playbarn a few miles away and North Walsham is the nearby fully-equipped town. Lovely woods for shady walks if the weather is hot, easy access to Cromer, Sheringham and Norwich by car & train if it is not. The only 'downside' is that you can see the gas works on the horizon - more prominent from the Mundesley end of Bacton. If you can live with that, and it has never bothered us, then a good value holiday can be had. (the chalet with washing machine, private garden etc. I rent is just £300 a week in peak season!)
